Register online with UDI and attend police within 3 months: work, self-employment, or self-sufficient (sufficient funds + health insurance). Free. Non-EEA family get residence card (free).

Requirements at a glance

There is no minimum stay to keep the permit. Spouse and children can usually be included. Permanent residence: after 5 years. Citizenship can be possible after about 8 years.

Resident if >183 d/12 mo or 270 d/36 mo: 22% + bracket tax; dividends ~37.8% effective; wealth tax ~1.0–1.1%; strict exit tax on shares.
