Registration of EEA/EFTA nationals (incl. Swiss) is a residence route in Iceland (Fri rörlighet EU / EFTA). Stay up to 3 months (6 if job-seeking) without registering; then register with Registers Iceland (Þjóðskrá) showing work, studies or sufficient means + health insurance. Non-EEA family: residence card (ISK 8,000).

There is no minimum stay to keep the permit. Spouse and children can usually be included. Permanent residence: after 5 years. Citizenship can be possible after about 7 years.
