Temporary Residence as Pensioner (Retiree) (Residencia Temporal – Pensionado)

Temporary Residence as Pensioner (Retiree) is a residence route in Costa Rica (Retirement). Lifetime pension ≥US$1,000/mo (state or private; rents/dividends don't count). No age minimum. One pension covers spouse + children <25. CCSS enrolment mandatory. Same DGME process/fees as rentista.

Requirements at a glance

You need an annual income of about CHF 9'600. You must spend about 1 days a year in the country to keep it. Spouse and children can usually be included. Permanent residence: after 3 years. Citizenship can be possible after about 7 years.
